The Marine-use receiver range comprises four models. The Sea Scope 1 & 2 models offer broadly equivalent software functionality to their Ship Monitor 1 & 2 counterparts but have some important hardware differences. The Sea Scope Plus and 1900 models are designed for more intensive use and contain additional circuitry to provide more extensive and efficient decoding of external GPS NMEA sentences.
All four models are housed in a compact extruded aluminium cabinet that can easily be secured for stability in rough weather. The units have a wide-input, fully isolated dc power supply for correct and proper marine use allowing direct connection to the ship's batteries via a fuse or circuit breaker.
The Sea Scope 1 and 2 models can take their GPS position input via the unit's RS232 port by using an adapter lead. The lead also provides an overload-protected, secondary 12V dc source for powering the GPS receiver without defeating the galvanic isolation of the power supply. A separate adapter lead is available for the popular Garmin E-Trex range of GPS receivers as well as a connection and switch box for the Garmin GPS35/36 range of all-in-one GPS receivers when a more permanent installation is required.
The Sea Scope Plus and 1900 models have an optically isolated GPS NMEA interface for a professional grade fixed GPS receiver. These AIS receivers also have an LCD display to repeat sensor parameters dynamically and as an aid to configuring the unit.
These receivers are suitable for leisure boats of all sizes, fishing boats and smaller commercial vessels where AIS monitoring is required but where there is no mandatory carriage requirement to fit a full UAIS transponder system.
