Latest firmware versions and revision history
AIS Receiver 1
The internal firmware of the AIS Receiver 1 is not user-upgradable and is unlikely to be developed further unless future ShipPlotter developments require it, or if any misoperation is reported.
Version 0010, First released version.
AIS Receiver/Decoder 1 (Serial) with USB power
This firmware is being continually developed and is upgradable by a competent technician by the substitution of the socketed microcontroller device.
Version B1.00, First released version.

Version B1.02, Corrected occasional misinterpretation of message end flag.
AIS Receiver/Decoder 1 (Serial) with external power
This firmware is being continually developed and is upgradable by a competent technician by the substitution of the socketed microcontroller device. The external power versions have extended RAM capacity over their USB power counterparts and hence can have enhanced firmware functionality in the future to make use of this. Currently, the two serial interface hardware versions carry the same firmware.

AIS Receiver/Decoder 1 (USB-A)
This firmware is being continually developed and is upgradable by a competent technician by the substitution of the socketed microcontroller device. The USB-A versions do not have an RS232 input facility and so cannot make use of the GPS input and merging facilities in the firmware. However, currently the firmware versions are the same, but with this feature disabled. A future firmware version, specially for this USB-A model, will have this redundant GPS code removed, making space for additional enhancements in other areas.

AIS Ship Monitor 1 & 2
This firmware is being continually developed and is upgradable by a competent technician by the substitution of the socketed microcontroller device. The AIS Ship Monitor 1 units currently have near equivalent software functionality to the externally-powered AIS Receiver/Decoder 1 units and also have the same, currently unused, additional RAM capacity. Future software enhancements may make use of this extra RAM capacity in parallel with that offered with the externally-powered ARD1. In addition to this, the AIS Ship Monitor hardware has the facility for a large capacity EEPROM device to be installed. This feature, too, is currently unused and the use of it may be included in a future firmware upgrade.

AIS Sea Scope 1 & 2
This AIS Sea Scope 1 & 2 units contain the same microcontroller circuitry as the AIS Ship Monitor units and so, currently, the firmware versions are the same. The comments on the AIS Ship Monitor firmware also apply here. However, the Sea Scope firmware will, most likely, diverge in the future to provide software facilities, perhaps coupled with additional hardware, which will be more useful in a mobile environment for which this equipment is designed.

KATAS OnBoard for AIS Engine
This firmware is being continually developed but, unlike the others, is not user-upgradable. The OnBoard module needs to be returned for firmware upgrades. It may be such that a replacement service can be offered so there is no usage down-time but the mechanism for this has not yet been put into place. Please email the support address if you need a firmware upgrade.

KATAS All Messages Chip for AIS Engine
This firmware is being continually developed and is easily upgradable as the product just contains the microcontroler chip. A chip replacement service will be offered to existing customers so as to minimise usage down time.
